Deped Statement on hiring personnel that will accomplish clerical tasks
PASIG CITY, September 28, 2018 – In keeping with its continuous expansion of employee welfare as part of Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones’s 10-Point Agenda, the Department of Education (DepEd) is spearheading efforts to improve the working condition of teachers.
As part of its ongoing review of policies on teachers’ workload, the agency is conducting a study of the type and magnitude of ancillary tasks undertaken by teachers in schools and the specific typology of the schools (size, geographic distance, etc.) that will ensure a school structure’s responsiveness to the particular needs of the school and school-community.
Based on the study, an initial solution that has been identified is the creation of non-teaching positions in schools which DepEd intends to request from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Moreover, the Department is continuously finding ways to further simplify and reduce school forms and processes. DepEd’s series of reviews has resulted in the standardization of format, updating and reduction of data needed in existing school forms, maximization of available technology and information system. It is also looking into collaboration with teachers and process owners to consider data sharing instead of creating separate forms to further reduce clerical work of teachers.
