The Department of Education (DepEd) – Antique division is encouraging parents to enroll their children now and not to wait for the last day of the modified regular enrollment on June 30.

DepEd-Antique Superintendent Dr. Felisa B. Beriong said during a press conference on Friday that it is important for parents to enroll their children early so they could be included in the DepEd Learning Continuity Plan in the time of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“As we are going into the blended modular learning, the number of enrollees is important so we would know as to how many modules are we going to prepare for the students,” Beriong said.

As of Friday, DepEd School Governance and Operations Division chief Evelyn C. Remo said 47,581 students have enrolled from Kindergarten to Senior High School, including Learners with Disabilities or Non-Graded students, in both public and private schools.

“In public schools, there are 44,792 enrolled from Kindergarten to Senior High School, including Learners with Disabilities,” Remo said.

In private schools, only 2,789 have enrolled from Kindergarten to Senior High School.

Last academic year, a total of 160,877 learners from Kindergarten to Senior High School and 228 Learners with Disabilities were enrolled.

Meanwhile, DepEd private school coordinator Salve Kalon, during the press conference, said private schools also started their enrollment on June 1 but only a few parents have enrolled their children.

“So far, there is no private school that is closing down this school year because they are also allowed to have online classes,” Kalon said,

She said parents of children enrolled in 10 private schools in the province need not worry about the safety of their children because the schools are adhering to the health protocol.
